Board Meeting Dates & Minutes

All meetings start at 7:00 pm unless noted below.

Minutes are formal copies or reflections of motions and resolutions made at public meetings. There are discussions at meetings that will not make minutes, due to no action being taken.  The public is always welcome to attend meetings. Join us!

Michigan State Law (Open Meetings Act): The strict requirements of the Michigan Open Meetings Act (OMA) mandate that minutes record details like the time, date, place, members present/absent, decisions made, and roll-call votes.

Recording the names of people who speak during public comment is considered an addition to these mandatory state requirements.

Pierson Township Board Policy for normal board meetings, local policy dictates how public commenters are recorded: Stating Name and Address: during public comment periods, the Board officially "invites citizens to express their concerns" and asks them to "state their name and address at the beginning of their statement(s)"

Recording in Minutes: The Township Policy Manual instructs the Clerk to ensure the minutes go beyond the basic state OMA requirements. The local policy explicitly requires that the minutes "shall list persons who address the board under general public comments periods and the topic of their remarks, when necessary."

Township Board Meetings are the third monday of the month.
